Poe:

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dreamed before

And all my days are trances, And all my nightly dreams, Are where thy dark eye glances, And where thy footstep gleams -- In what ethereal dances, By what eternal streams.

The skies they were ashen and sober; The leaves they were crisped and sere -- The leaves they were withering and sere; It was night in the lonesome October, Of my most immemorial year

I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.

I was reading one of the blogs that I follow  f8hasit, a wonderful blog written by a fellow Ohioan...and she wrote about her love for Edgar Allen Poe.  Which I'm quicky finding out that Nancy over at f8hasit, has impecible taste that is really quite in line with that of my own! *winks*

I'm a HUGE Edgar Allen Poe fan, I have so many books of his, and especially this time of the year, I like to read them.  There is something so mystical about the man, he's every bit creepy as he might of been insane, he's dark and sinister, he's twisted and morose, yet, there's a part of me that identifies with him unlike any other author in the history of my being able to read.  Not 100% sure what that says about ME per se, but I am continuously in awe of Mr. Poe.

And it's very strange that I find HIM of all authors to follow, considering I won't even watch scary movies....cause they give me nightmares....but yet, Poe, I read on.  I sit on the porch and read his stories on a blustery fall/winter day...and your senses come alive, every creek of a wooden board fills your ears and penetrates your subconscious, an otherwise average gust of wind suddenly chills you to your core....everything changes when you read Poe.

Maybe that's why I love him so much, his stories of torment, torture, death and insanity makes me feel alive, and imaginative...inspired and awed.  Reading Poe seems personal, as if you are reading his private journal, his secret thoughts, those thoughts one would never breathe a word of

Tis the Season for Poe.

THE TELL-TALE HEART

by Edgar Allan Poe
1843

TRUE! --nervous --very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad? The disease had sharpened my senses --not destroyed --not dulled them. Above all was the sense of hearing acute. I heard all things in the heaven and in the earth. I heard many things in hell. How, then, am I mad? Hearken! and observe how healthily --how calmly I can tell you the whole story.

It is impossible to say how first the idea entered my brain; but once conceived, it haunted me day and night. Object there was none. Passion there was none. I loved the old man. He had never wronged me. He had never given me insult. For his gold I had no desire. I think it was his eye! yes, it was this! He had the eye of a vulture --a pale blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees --very gradually --I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever.

Now this is the point. You fancy me mad. Madmen know nothing. But you should have seen me. You should have seen how wisely I proceeded --with what caution --with what foresight --with what dissimulation I went to work! I was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him. And every night, about midnight, I turned the latch of his door and opened it --oh so gently! And then, when I had made an opening sufficient for my head, I put in a dark lantern, all closed, closed, that no light shone out, and then I thrust in my head. Oh, you would have laughed to see how cunningly I thrust it in! I moved it slowly --very, very slowly, so that I might not disturb the old man's sleep. It took me an hour to place my whole head within the opening so far that I could see him as he lay upon his bed. Ha! would a madman have been so wise as this, And then, when my head was well in the room, I undid the lantern cautiously-oh, so cautiously --cautiously (for the hinges creaked) --I undid it just so much that a single thin ray fell upon the vulture eye. And this I did for seven long nights --every night just at midnight --but I found the eye always closed; and so it was impossible to do the work; for it was not the old man who vexed me, but his Evil Eye. And every morning, when the day broke, I went boldly into the chamber, and spoke courageously to him, calling him by name in a hearty tone, and inquiring how he has passed the night. So you see he would have been a very profound old man, indeed, to suspect that every night, just at twelve, I looked in upon him while he slept.

Upon the eighth night I was more than usually cautious in opening the door. A watch's minute hand moves more quickly than did mine. Never before that night had I felt the extent of my own powers --of my sagacity. I could scarcely contain my feelings of triumph. To think that there I was, opening the door, little by little, and he not even to dream of my secret deeds or thoughts. I fairly chuckled at the idea; and perhaps he heard me; for he moved on the bed suddenly, as if startled. Now you may think that I drew back --but no. His room was as black as pitch with the thick darkness, (for the shutters were close fastened, through fear of robbers,) and so I knew that he could not see the opening of the door, and I kept pushing it on steadily, steadily.

I had my head in, and was about to open the lantern, when my thumb slipped upon the tin fastening, and the old man sprang up in bed, crying out --"Who's there?"

I kept quite still and said nothing. For a whole hour I did not move a muscle, and in the meantime I did not hear him lie down. He was still sitting up in the bed listening; --just as I have done, night after night, hearkening to the death watches in the wall.

Presently I heard a slight groan, and I knew it was the groan of mortal terror. It was not a groan of pain or of grief --oh, no! --it was the low stifled sound that arises from the bottom of the soul when overcharged with awe. I knew the sound well. Many a night, just at midnight, when all the world slept, it has welled up from my own bosom, deepening, with its dreadful echo, the terrors that distracted me. I say I knew it well. I knew what the old man felt, and pitied him, although I chuckled at heart. I knew that he had been lying awake ever since the first slight noise, when he had turned in the bed. His fears had been ever since growing upon him. He had been trying to fancy them causeless, but could not. He had been saying to himself --"It is nothing but the wind in the chimney --it is only a mouse crossing the floor," or "It is merely a cricket which has made a single chirp." Yes, he had been trying to comfort himself with these suppositions: but he had found all in vain. All in vain; because Death, in approaching him had stalked with his black shadow before him, and enveloped the victim. And it was the mournful influence of the unperceived shadow that caused him to feel --although he neither saw nor heard --to feel the presence of my head within the room.

When I had waited a long time, very patiently, without hearing him lie down, I resolved to open a little --a very, very little crevice in the lantern. So I opened it --you cannot imagine how stealthily, stealthily --until, at length a simple dim ray, like the thread of the spider, shot from out the crevice and fell full upon the vulture eye.

It was open --wide, wide open --and I grew furious as I gazed upon it. I saw it with perfect distinctness --all a dull blue, with a hideous veil over it that chilled the very marrow in my bones; but I could see nothing else of the old man's face or person: for I had directed the ray as if by instinct, precisely upon the damned spot.

And have I not told you that what you mistake for madness is but over-acuteness of the sense? --now, I say, there came to my ears a low, dull, quick sound, such as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton. I knew that sound well, too. It was the beating of the old man's heart. It increased my fury, as the beating of a drum stimulates the soldier into courage.

But even yet I refrained and kept still. I scarcely breathed. I held the lantern motionless. I tried how steadily I could maintain the ray upon the eve. Meantime the hellish tattoo of the heart increased. It grew quicker and quicker, and louder and louder every instant. The old man's terror must have been extreme! It grew louder, I say, louder every moment! --do you mark me well I have told you that I am nervous: so I am. And now at the dead hour of the night, amid the dreadful silence of that old house, so strange a noise as this excited me to uncontrollable terror. Yet, for some minutes longer I refrained and stood still. But the beating grew louder, louder! I thought the heart must burst. And now a new anxiety seized me --the sound would be heard by a neighbour! The old man's hour had come! With a loud yell, I threw open the lantern and leaped into the room. He shrieked once --once only. In an instant I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him. I then smiled gaily, to find the deed so far done. But, for many minutes, the heart beat on with a muffled sound. This, however, did not vex me; it would not be heard through the wall. At length it ceased. The old man was dead. I removed the bed and examined the corpse. Yes, he was stone, stone dead. I placed my hand upon the heart and held it there many minutes. There was no pulsation. He was stone dead. His eve would trouble me no more.

If still you think me mad, you will think so no longer when I describe the wise precautions I took for the concealment of the body. The night waned, and I worked hastily, but in silence. First of all I dismembered the corpse. I cut off the head and the arms and the legs.

I then took up three planks from the flooring of the chamber, and deposited all between the scantlings. I then replaced the boards so cleverly, so cunningly, that no human eye --not even his --could have detected any thing wrong. There was nothing to wash out --no stain of any kind --no blood-spot whatever. I had been too wary for that. A tub had caught all --ha! ha!

When I had made an end of these labors, it was four o'clock --still dark as midnight. As the bell sounded the hour, there came a knocking at the street door. I went down to open it with a light heart, --for what had I now to fear? There entered three men, who introduced themselves, with perfect suavity, as officers of the police. A shriek had been heard by a neighbour during the night; suspicion of foul play had been aroused; information had been lodged at the police office, and they (the officers) had been deputed to search the premises.

I smiled, --for what had I to fear? I bade the gentlemen welcome. The shriek, I said, was my own in a dream. The old man, I mentioned, was absent in the country. I took my visitors all over the house. I bade them search --search well. I led them, at length, to his chamber. I showed them his treasures, secure, undisturbed. In the enthusiasm of my confidence, I brought chairs into the room, and desired them here to rest from their fatigues, while I myself, in the wild audacity of my perfect triumph, placed my own seat upon the very spot beneath which reposed the corpse of the victim.

The officers were satisfied. My manner had convinced them. I was singularly at ease. They sat, and while I answered cheerily, they chatted of familiar things. But, ere long, I felt myself getting pale and wished them gone. My head ached, and I fancied a ringing in my ears: but still they sat and still chatted. The ringing became more distinct: --It continued and became more distinct: I talked more freely to get rid of the feeling: but it continued and gained definiteness --until, at length, I found that the noise was not within my ears.

No doubt I now grew very pale; --but I talked more fluently, and with a heightened voice. Yet the sound increased --and what could I do? It was a low, dull, quick sound --much such a sound as a watch makes when enveloped in cotton. I gasped for breath --and yet the officers heard it not. I talked more quickly --more vehemently; but the noise steadily increased. I arose and argued about trifles, in a high key and with violent gesticulations; but the noise steadily increased. Why would they not be gone? I paced the floor to and fro with heavy strides, as if excited to fury by the observations of the men --but the noise steadily increased. Oh God! what could I do? I foamed --I raved --I swore! I swung the chair upon which I had been sitting, and grated it upon the boards, but the noise arose over all and continually increased. It grew louder --louder --louder! And still the men chatted pleasantly, and smiled. Was it possible they heard not? Almighty God! --no, no! They heard! --they suspected! --they knew! --they were making a mockery of my horror!-this I thought, and this I think. But anything was better than this agony! Anything was more tolerable than this derision! I could bear those hypocritical smiles no longer! I felt that I must scream or die! and now --again! --hark! louder! louder! louder! louder!

"Villains!" I shrieked, "dissemble no more! I admit the deed! --tear up the planks! here, here! --It is the beating of his hideous heart!"

Messy Hair:

When you are a kid, the messier the hair at the end of the day, the more fun you apparently had....windblown meant you went fast...likely ran like the wind, ratted, meant you played hard and with fervor....missing...meant that stupid neighborhood bully got a hold of you again!

As an adult, we don't always have messed up hair...there are times I lay down to sleep, and I wake up looking like I'd just laid down.....pristine as can be to the point only the "morning breath" gives me away....

However....

When Pablo comes to visit....

Messed up hair....takes on a very adult meaning...

Means I had fun, I played hard and with fervor....missing hair....at some point he took me and my fiery red hair and gripped me tightly and with passion...which is a much, much better alternative to that mean ole neighborhood bully....and if my hair is windblown....means the weekend went by entirely too fast! *winks*  ....

"In a Relationship"

So last night I had to work....so no long conversations with Pablo via the telephone....

When I got home, around 1:00 a.m. I popped on my computer to check my e-mail and whatnot and saw that he left me a comment on my Myspace account.  It simply said
"Go Steelers...xoxxo"

He knows I HATE the Steelers!  It's part of our bickering flirtation that we do...he teases me that the Browns suck, and then I tell him I hate the Steelers...and so it goes....that's just us....

Anyway, so there I am checking my messages....I get his comment, I go to leave him a comment back...and I see that his mood says that he's excited for the weekend....(the same as my status...as this weekend he's coming up here to spend some time with me)...I think to myself...COULD HE BE ANYMORE ADORABLE?....and then that's when I saw it, he changed his status to "in a relationship"....

I'm assuming with ME!  Wow...just like that....no big to do about it, no...worry, no stress....so I reciprocated the sentiment....I changed mine too.  *takes a deep breath*

Nothing says committed like the big "status change" on your social networking websites! lol

This is so crazy....I'm in a relationship.  ME!  *scratches head*....wow.  Who would of thought?  I'm officially one of a twosome.

I think I'm still in shock....you'll have to give me a minute or a hundred while this sinks in....

Coincidence or Conspiracy?

Now, I'm no conspiracy theorist by any means, but while discussing the whole H1N1 craziness sweeping our nation with my sister's Mother-in-law this weekend in Chicago....she told me about how she heard that the Manufacturer of Tamiflu, Roche Laboratories had a sizable amount of Tamiflu in their possession that was about to expire it's shelf life.

Interesting.....

So, they need to unload a large amount of product....

The United States has an outbreak of Flu....

mmmmhmmmm...yes interesting....

I try to imagine a world where we ARE NOT just a herd of lab rats, being poked and prodded by scientists and governments....

A virtual playground for experimentation and process of elimination all for the almighty dollar and revenue for greedy pharmaceutical companies....

Is this a little "thinning of the herd" perhaps?  Casualties being a necessary evil for the almighty dollar?

but I admit, when you hear things like this...it's hard not to think about it...it's hard not to wonder....

ya know?

And then Goldilocks found one that was Juuuuuuuuuuuust Riiiiiiight!

Ok, so I've been working at the Farm every weekend, and working at a farm in Chicago, is like working security for fashion week in NYC....The entire line of American Eagle Jeans walks by....tucked neatly into the latest fashion boots.....in multiple heights and colors.

You'll see the Tunic, the leggings.....posh hats....designer coats.....D&G Glasses...Prada Purses....Oh, you see it all....and as the Ponies and you go in circles, it's easy to put yourself into a "I wish I was shopping TRANCE"

See, lately I've been intent on getting myself a new pair of boots.  I had in my mind exactly what I was looking for, but was having a really hard time finding said boot.  And as the weeks waned on at the Farm...with each passing skinny pair of legs that walked by sporting boots LIKE those I imagined, the grouchier and more intent I got on my quest for the perfect fall 2009 Boot.

But I'm thrilled to report, after much anticipation on my part, and much eye rolling from you on this topic, I FOUND THEM!

Affordable, comfortable, light weight, great heel height and form fitting while not cutting off your circulation...oh, yes, they are perfect.

So ladies, if you are looking for "the perfect boot according to HeatherLynn"...go to Target!  for $40.00 you too can have black, leather, comfortable sex on heels! *smirks*

Drum Roll Please.....

Introducing MY new boots!

Simple, black, very understated, yet amazingly compatible with both a knee length skirt OR jeans....they are EXACTLY what I was looking for!

THANKS TARGET!  YOU'RE THE BEST!

I'm Free....I'm Freeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Let the fun resume!

Welp folks, the end is in sight.  I WILL be having my first weekend of utter freedom from work and/or illness *crosses fingers that I don't catch my sister's Step throat crap*....yes m'friends, it's called a weekend and I'm going to LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this coming one!

Pablo is coming up to spend the weekend with me....I'm going to finally get to go back to my Saturday morning routine of eating breakfast at "the coffee shop" with my family....long lost ideas like "sleeping in" are going to happen....even better when I think I get to sleep in with Pablo....I love this feeling of having something to look forward to!

It seems that for the first time in a long time, I have all sorts of things to look forward to.

Take last night for instance, Pablo called me on my way home from Chicago....and he told me that he left a present for me at my house.

Here's what I found on my porch upon my return:

He carved me pumpkins!  I don't know why, but after a long weekend away....having something to come home to.....from HIM....*shrugs*, I don't know...I felt like...and this is going to sound stupid, but I felt kinda special.  He even put little candles in each of them for me to light them up.

{INSERT AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW HERE}

The guy, well, I don't know how he does it, but he makes me all soft and mushy....God Bless Him! *laughs*  In Chicago, I'm hardcore Pony Princess....or "dominate man hater" as Phil likes to perceive me as...back home, I'm a kitten!

Anyway....So, it's Monday....and normally that's not a good thing, but this week, the sun is shining...the fall leaves are bright and full of color...and on my front porch I have carved pumpkins from Pablo...with a weekend in sight.

Yes, it's a fine day in the world of me!

WELCOME TO MONDAY!

Flu Shot? THINK NOT!

The 70's gas shortage is about like the Flu shot shortage.....

the gas station being the health department.....

the cars the patients....

and signs like this are usually what you find after waiting in line for two hours:

Except it says something like

"Flu Shot Clinic:  Health Care Employees the Elderly and Children under 18 only!"

While it's great that I'm considered an otherwise healthy 30-something year old, it sucks to get to the front of the line only to be told:

Health Care Official:  NO SOUP (flu shot) FOR YOU!

Me:  "But what about the flu?  I need that shot!"

Health Care Official:  "NEXT!  Come back, one year!"

This stinks!

The Meaning of Life:

Last night, Pablo asked me if I knew what the meaning of life was...

He was being completely serious...however me, being me...immediately thought of that scene in City Slickers where "Curly" holds up his finger...{and yes, i'm aware I really need to work on my depth...I know...}

Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?
[holds up one finger]
Curly: This.

Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don't mean shit.
Mitch: But, what is the "one thing?"
Curly: [smiles] That's what *you* have to find out.

{I'm obviously smart ass Mitch in this scenario.....}

I haven't figured out what that "one thing" is yet...I mean I have theories....I have ideas about it, but I'm not 100% sure what my purpose is here...or what the secret to life is....

Do you?

To be honest, I think Pablo really wanted to know my thoughts on the subject, but I felt very ill prepared to answer him. If someone asked you...what would your answer be?

Law Abiding Citzen...but NOT a Lineman!

So today I'm driving to work, taking the straight shot between Town "A" and my Destination-al Town "B" on State Route 65....and often times, there will be a State Highway Patrol cruising around catching morning commute speeders as they race off to work....late, just like I always seem to be....

But today, State Highway Patrol decided he'd use me as his shield.  They do this often and it's not the first time THIS particular cop decided to use me...but it IS the first time I decided to not be his pawn in this little game of "cat and mouse" he so likes to play.  Frankly, no games are good before 9:00 a.m.  People, I don't even get my head "in the game" until after ten, so I decided while Mr. State Highway Patrol Guy was cruising behind me, being all sly, using me like a quarterback uses his Offensive Linemen.....I started flashing my lights at the oncoming traffic.  Just a quick little flicker to let them know....that "THE LAW" was near.

For those of you who may not know...when someone flashes their lights at you, that's what it generally means....unless you're a trucker being passed, then they are flashing to let you know you can merge back into their lane with plenty of clearance..  Anyway.....

I was feeling pretty mischievous by helping the criminals aka "speeders"...but I can't help it, the "Speeders" are my people....I am ONE of them!  So I was pretty impressed with myself for foiling the wily cop behind me...but I had to be careful, i couldn't tip him off to what i was doing, I had to keep him believing that everyone is just law abiding citizens this morning....so when I neared signs facing me that were reflective, I couldn't flash, or he'd see it and know what I was doing....making me like the villain in the Scooby Do episodes when they get caught and say: "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!"

And sure enough, a white sedan approached....there was nothing i could do....never even hit the breaks as he/she went by us....and as fast as the blink of an eye, those Police Cruiser lights lit up and the Patrolman whipped his car around and was in fast pursuit.

I felt awful, I let one slip between the cracks.....my performance had been flawless up to that point, but I failed....State Highway guy won....

THIS TIME!

Until we meet again Statie! ;)

And to the white sedan guy/girl....sorry man, I wish there was something I could of done....ya can't save everyone All the time!

plants of slow growth:

Like a Moss on a rock....

I think Pablo's growing on me.....

My cousin/neighbor and confidant Kami told me about love/attraction that sometimes it's a plant of slow growth.  She said that you don't plant a seed and get a flower the next day....it takes time to grow.....and I kinda debated her, telling her that with everyone I'd dated/been in a relationship with, I always had kinda instant attraction/feelings for the person.  Like I knew I was smitten BEFORE we were even IN the relationship...she still contended that her husband wasn't someone she would of ever thought she'd of wound up falling head over heels for, but in time, she fell hard, and irreversibly.  She assured me that loving someone, isn't always the way you plan it, or even always with who you thought....but when it's with the right person....and given the proper time to develop....you'll never regret waiting til spring for your blooms.

....

I realize that's a lot of gardening references...and let me tell you, I do NOT have a green thumb....I currently have a dead ivy hanging from my kitchen ceiling....

however, I have to pause to consider, maybe Kami's right....

Oh, and Pablo has agreed not to smoke around me anymore....he said due to my obvious sensitivity to it, from here on out, he'll go outside to smoke when I come to visit him.  How's that for growth/progress?

Men In their Underwear....

One thing I love about living roommate free….well…*laughs*…who am I kidding, there isn’t ONE thing…there’s EVERYTHING that I love about living roommate free!

My last roommate….well, he really soured me on the roommate experience.

However “Pablo”….being one of the only people who actually met my roommate / nightmare from earlier this summer….somehow, he makes even THAT situation humorous, and easier to not be bitter about…

See, the infamous first date with Pablo….had me and him standing on my front porch at the end of the date…peering in at my roommate….sitting in the living room in his UNDERWEAR, no shirt…eating Tuna out of a can…watching television while sitting his scantily clad ass on my couch!

I can't begin to tell you how unattractive this scene actually was...there truly were NO WORDS!.....well, except these:

Pablo says… “so that’s the roommate huh? Is he, um, is he in his underwear?”

Me: yeah….*nodding in disgust and mortification* “yep, that’s him!”

While I wanted to die of embarrassment, Pablo watched out of morbid curiosity as my roommate carried on as if he was the only person on the planet....oblivious to his roommate, aka landlord and her date...who I might add were wearing clothing!  Pablo teased me in my top notch screening process of Craig's List roommate candidates....I tried to laugh it off...as he clearly was trying to make light of my plight.

So last week....after totally forgetting about my very bad first date roommate display.....Pablo, after showering at my house last week....comes out in his boxer briefs, right into the living room as I sat wide eyed in my chair...and when I say "wide eyed"....I mean my eyes were scanning him from head to toe amazingly...as this was a first seeing him in his underwear, i was surprised by this gesture...but in a good way….and then he speaks...and says…. “Hey, who does THIS remind you of?”….Naturally, he was referring to my ex-roommate!

I laughed….he laughed….

We shared a laugh. Those first “shared laughs” are always so special in a new relationship…or whatever it is Pablo and I are in here….I like that he is just himself....in his underwear...but himself around me.

Although, I got to tell you, him in his boxer briefs is NO laughing matter. Did I mention that Pablo has a body that makes me drool. Like seriously…I don’t know that I’ve ever been MORE physically attracted to any man I’ve ever laid eyes on in real life. It kind of scares me really, because it makes me feel shallow. Something that I rarely accuse myself of. The idea of being shallow makes me cringe….I don't want to look at him with that carnivorous look....that look I've seen guys give me...where they look like they want to pounce on you...but dear lord, when he's standing there.....in only a towel...wearing my pink and red house slippers and his 'disturbed' beanie cap (as I've been blessed to see in real life here recently)....my GAWD....how can I not?!

Surely a girl doesn't get blessed with a guy who 1) is kind and caring.....AND hot?  *laughs and shakes head*....no, no, no.....that can't happen to ME!  Someone, quick...PINCH me!

Althoughhhhhhhh, *looks thoughtful*  I did get lucky today when the lady at pizza hut brought me a medium pizza instead of my personal Pan and told me that I was getting a size upgrade since they were out of what I ordered....so *shrugs*...maybe I'm having one of those totally unexpected lucky streaks that almost NEVER happens to me....I get two meals for the price of one....AND I get Pablo in a bath towel....smoking like a chimney just to balance things out! *laughs*

Luck, what a crazy unpredictable thing.

X-mas Ideas for me....Anyone?

available at:

Consideration:

{This is ME}

And this is ME, with a problem!….well, it’s not so much a problem as it is a hurdle, setback, dilemma. I need help. Oh, yeah, go ahead, laugh, we all know I’ve needed help for years….but I need a different kind of help…and that’s where YOU come in…yes, you there…reading this…don’t look behind you….I’m talking to YOU!

*sighs*…..

Oh, where to begin….

Pablo. Well, so we’ve been seeing each other since July. Unfortunately, due to my fantastically crazy work schedule, I’ve not actually SEEN him much, but that’s ok, makes it easy to “ease” into this with him, instead of crashing into it head on, and at record speed….Anyway….

So last night, I made the decision to drive the hour and half down to see him…..in his “natural habitat”…his home. I think you can tell a lot about a person by being in their space, on their terms….in THEIR comfort zone. You see their favorite things…like slippers….their recliner….and DVD collection…..you see their bed, their work out equipment…if they have it, etc.

So I get to Pablo’s house around seven thirty-ish and he’s waiting for me in the driveway, still in his work clothes…looking handsome…and surprisingly kinda nervous. He helped me and Chubs (my dog) out of the car….and to his door.

{Chubs}

I walked in, after letting chubs piss on the bushes in his back yard…, I was wide eyed and ready to take it all in….

First into the kitchen, which had a bar that divided the kitchen from the living room….a living room, with your basic man’s recliner and a couch and television. A two-bedroom apartment, standard issue bathroom and closets…it was small but as cozy as a single guy dwelling probably gets. And now I’ll admit, I was very hesitant about coming here because he’s a smoker and I know he smokes in his house, I expected it to smell like bar or something, but it actually smelled of cleaning products and the Black Cherry candle he bought just prior to my arrival.

He also bought me a bottle of wine…for my drinking pleasure….and I thought him to be amazingly adorable as he winced when he said, “all I have is plastic cups, I’m sorry I don’t have any wine glasses….um…how about a coffee mug? Want me to put it in a coffee mug instead?” I just smiled sweetly at him and said, “No, no, plastic is fine.”

I did tell him though, “Welp, my bachelor,….I can tell ya one thing.....you’re going to need three things if you want me to visit you often….#1-you need to hang a picture or two, these bare walls are freaking out my girlie sensibilities…#2-a lamp. You need at least one lamp, overhead lighting is so harsh. And #3-a throw blanket…a girl needs to be able to snuggle up under a blanket when she’s lounging around.” He looked like he was making a mental note. We shared one of those mutual smiles…then he took me into his big ole man’s chair and nuzzled my neck and kissed my cheek until I was squirming due to the goose bumps he was giving me….he looked pleased with himself when I showed him my arm all bumpy….

Later in the Night, when I appeared to need a pillow to see the TV, he went into his room, coming out with another pillow to which he fluffed up and placed gingerly behind my head and said, “there…is that better”….

He made me pizza, brought it over to me on the couch, complete with paper towel and a glass of water….I didn’t have to move a muscle, he completely catered to me and was so considerate of any and all my needs…..

EXCEPT ONE…

Once sitting down….watching “Cinderella Man”…that’s when the smoking really started…one after another after another….

My eyes began to burn….and I rubbed them to relieve them as best I could. I covered up with Pablo’s work jacket that I used as a make shift blanket…it’s smelled like him…so I held it near my face to filter out some of the smoke.

*sneeze…cough, cough…sneeze*

He said… “Is the smoke hurting your eyes…?” “I’m killing you aren’t I?”

I looked at him and only smiled…as if to silently say, “yes, this really sucks for me”….but without being a bitch, or demanding or snobby, or anything along those lines….yet, the smoking went on.

Three hours later, my eyes were bloodshot, my head was stuffed up….my nostrils felt hot and irritated and off to bed we went.

When I awoke at five a.m. to leave, my nose was on fire….Chubs went into the living room and went into respiratory distress and appeared to have what looked like an asthma attack….once I put him outside to pee, he seemed to come out of it….while my nose bled on the way home.

Right now the clothes on my bedroom floor smell so bad, I may never get them clean….

But what can I do, I like this guy, he’s considerate in a million ways to me except this ONE! HELP! What do I do?

Is this a deal breaker? Am I Aidan? Is he Carrie?

That's MISS Pony Princess to YOU! *winks*

Now, I know some of you might not have any idea about my glamorous THIRD job that I work. And for those of you who do, I bet you don’t know exactly how GLAMOROUS it actually is!  Let me ....If i may...let you in on this very well kept secret.....

Chapter 1 - the Pony Diaries

Let me paint the scene for you….Me: Browns knit beanie cap, pigtail braids, an official “Camel Towing Company” Standard Issue Hooded sweatshirt, jeans, brown “Stanley” workboots….brown gloves.

{Me}

Workplace: A pony Ring. Red metal everywhere. Metal 4 foot gates, fashioned into a circle. Chains and rope and a red and white tent canopy offering minimal shelter from the weather.

Co-Workers: Eight four legged equines. Henry, Apollo, Snowflake, Doughboy, Baldy, Little Johnny, Trojan, and JoJo. Assorted in color and size AND disposition. Pony’s like human co-workers have their own set of personality conflicts. Sometimes they didn’t get enough sleep, and tend to be lazy, sometimes they had a fight with a friend back at the pony corral and they come in pissy and hard to deal with….need coddling…and special treatment. Baldy likes to try to take his saddle off at the end of the day by rubbing the chain up UNDER his saddle….Doughboy was mad at me yesterday for the fat kid I put on him….little Johnny …for some reason, I think he’s part Hispanic, because when he looks at me, he gives me this look that when I translate it to what he’s thinking, always comes out sounding Mexican….it’s just a feeling I get.

{Trojan, my most handsome Co-worker}

Now….throw in EIGHT kids….with various backpacks, balloons, whistles, noise clankers, Halloween costumes, complete with swords, wands, wings and more.....faces painted….and jacked up on sugar cookies and hot coco….

But that’s just the beginning….the kids, I can handle them….so now, with 8 kids, normally comes 16 parents….give or take a few. Parents who are a rainbow of variety. There are the easy going parents, whom for the record, I LOVE….to all of you I’ve met in my years of working at the pumpkin patch, let me just say thanks for making my job easier….you are a joy to work with….but then you have other parents, who for some reason want to make it federal case as to why my kid had to ride the brown one, when they really wanted the white one! If someone says “but I want to ride the white one”….ONE…. MORE…. TIME….I might spray paint “Snowflake” brown just to f*ck with them! I mean, your kid wants to ride a pony, seriously, will the world END if it’s not the “white one”? And that’s racist anyway, what’s wrong with the brown ones, or the black one….or poor Doughboy who’s like…yellow as the kids say?

Ok, so now there’s eight ponies, eight kids, sixteen parents…..ANNNNNNND…..twenty five friends, siblings, cousins, grandparents, spectators, etc who are standing outside the ring…manning strollers and sipping hot apple cider…holding the Indian corn purchases they will be taking with them when they go. Now, give all twenty five of THESE people cameras with flashes…..

And then you hear the roar of the airplane overhead, pulling a little banner that says something like: “Moe’s Place, home of the $9.99 oil change, on Barrington road!”

The cameras are flashing, the roar of the crowd…..the knee high boots and latest farm fashion that everyone is wearing this year….if you closed your eyes for a moment, and plugged your nose….it’s very red carpet-esque. Shonda (my human co-worker) and I are like security for the little celebrities as they are on display to the world.

But it’s easy to snap riiiiiight back to reality when I see Trojan pooping and I rush off to retrive my shovel and rake….to the sound of 50 people going “ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww Groooooooooooooooooooooosssss!!!!”

Ah, the life of a pony girl!

Confess…I know you’re all jealous! *laughs*

Thinking back.....

Today, I was thinking....about something my mom said when my ex-husband and I split up.

I was talking to her about moving out one day and she said, "well maybe some time apart will help you get some clarity about what it is you want to do"

A month later, she called me one night...AFTER I moved out....and she said "Heather, I have to tell you, I think I told you the wrong thing"....

and I was like "what is it mom?  what did you tell me wrong about?"

And she said "well, I was listening to the John Tesh show the other day..."

Which I figured I was in for a doozy when she threw in "John Tesh"....

Anyway so she says..."I was listening to the John Tesh show and he says, when experiencing marital difficulty, getting space is a bad idea.  You should stay and fight it out, because once you leave, the likelihood of ever going back is pretty low."  then she said "I think I told you wrong....I told you to leave when you should of stayed maybe?"

Leaving is never a good idea when trying to save a marriage according to John Tesh.  HOWEVER.....it's a tricky subject, BECAUSE....it took my leaving before my ex realized he wanted to stay married.  It took my departure to make him realize what he would be losing....because he got a taste of what losing me would be like.  However, and here's the real kick in the head....I didn't leave him to MAKE him realize this, I left because I was done.  period.  So I left and wanted him to leave me alone....instead he came back fervently, and frankly, it was too MUCH....too late.

Had I wanted to REALLY save my marriage, I could of left, forced him to see what he'd be missing.....and I could of went home, victorious....feeling as if I'd won, proved my point.  But all you would of won, was a marriage it takes walking out on to be appreciated.  I'm not that type of woman.  You either love me when you have me, or miss me when I'm gone, you don't get to have me and ignore me, only to get the thrill of winning me back once I've moved on.  It just doesn't work that way.

So no, leaving isn't the answer...UNLESS you're done fighting for the relationship.  I knew when I left, I'd lost the fight.  I had given up.....and there wasn't anything left to fight FOR.  ya know?

You want clarity, go talk to someone....take a drive....maybe take a weekend away somewhere to yourself....but DON'T move out....stay and fight if you have something worth fighting for.  If you don't, you've not been defeated, you have just been given a lesson in love....a lesson sometimes we as women need to learn the hard way.

To anyone out there struggling with a flailing relationship....my heart goes out to you.....it really does.
*hugs*
